Well our group met for a second time and once again we had a very nice time. It is fun to fellowship with everyone and encouraging to talk about how we can serve others in the name Jesus Christ.
After discussing a few passages of scripture and the first few chapters of 'The Conspiracy of Kindness' we discussed what service projects we would like to do. We decided to have each family make one (or more) backpacks for the homeless. Once we have assembled our backpacks ( we used this website for a bit of guidance http://www.ushelplines.org/homeless.php) we are going to each try to look for an opportunity to offer it to someone who needs it. Our goal is for each family to give out one and talk through the experience at the next meet and see where it leads.
We also are going to do a few group activities each year. We decided that we would have a fall project to help with yard work for those who need help (we thought we would seek out single mothers, the elderly and those caring for family with Alzheimer's). In the winter, we are thinking about organizing some free babysitting for parents who have a heard time finding time to get out to shop.
We am looking forward to our next meeting.
